The 10-Point SEO Checklist for Your Bio Link
Most SEO advice for creators is generic — "write good content, get backlinks". This checklist is the opposite: 10 specific checks you can verify in under 30 minutes. Each one moves the needle.
Server-side rendering (SSR)
Right-click your bio page → View Page Source (not Inspect). Use Ctrl+F to search for your bio text.
- Pass: your bio text appears in the HTML
- Fail: you only see
<div id="root"></div>+ scripts
If you fail this one, none of the other 9 checks will save you. Linktree and Beacons fail this. SimpleLink passes.
Unique meta title (50–60 chars)
Your <title> tag is the blue link in Google results. It must be unique per page and include your primary keyword (your name, your niche).
Example for a coaching page:
- ❌ "My Linktree" (5 chars, generic)
- ⚠️ "John Smith" (10 chars, too short)
- ✅ "John Smith — Mindset coach for entrepreneurs · book a call" (58 chars)
Unique meta description (140–160 chars)
The grey text under your title in search results. Action-oriented, specific, and human-written. Avoid generic phrases like "welcome to my page".
Formula that works: [Who you are] + [What you offer] + [How to take action].
Example: "Mindset coach for solo founders. Weekly tips, 1-on-1 sessions, and the Founders Mindset newsletter — find it all here."
Schema.org Person + ProfilePage
This is the single biggest differentiator that 99% of creators ignore. Schema.org is how you tell Google explicitly: "this is a person, with these social profiles".
Validate by pasting your URL into Google's Rich Results Test. You should see ProfilePage + Person detected with a sameAs array linking your socials.
SimpleLink generates this automatically based on the links you add. On Linktree, you can't add this at all.
Canonical URL set correctly
Your page should declare a <link rel="canonical"> tag pointing to its own primary URL. This prevents Google from treating /yourname and /yourname/ as duplicate content.
View source → search for canonical. If missing or pointing somewhere weird, fix it. SimpleLink handles this automatically.
Custom subdomain (or domain)
Subdomains are treated as separate sites by Google. yourname.simplelinkbio.com accrues authority only to you, while linktr.ee/yourname dilutes across 50 million other Linktree pages.
Even better: connect your own domain (links.yourbrand.com). Available on SimpleLink Pro when payments are live.
Page speed under 1.5 seconds on mobile
Run your page through PageSpeed Insights. You want:
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) under 2.5s
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint) under 200ms
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) under 0.1
- Overall Performance score above 90
Linktree typically scores 50–70. SimpleLink scores 90+. Page speed is a confirmed Google ranking factor since 2021.
Submitted to Google Search Console
Without this, you're relying on Google to discover your page organically — which can take 2–8 weeks.
- Go to Google Search Console
- Add your page URL as a property (URL prefix)
- Verify ownership via HTML tag or DNS
- Use "URL Inspection" → "Request Indexing"
Indexed in 2–7 days instead of 2–8 weeks. Massive accelerator.
3–5 quality backlinks
A backlink is when another website links to your page. Google sees this as a "vote of confidence" — the more authority the linking site has, the more it boosts you.
Easy first backlinks for creators:
- Your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X profile bios → high-authority backlinks
- Podcast episodes you appear on → show notes link to your bio
- Guest blog posts on Medium, Dev.to, Hashnode, Substack
- Your LinkedIn profile in the "Featured" section
- Quora answers with a contextual link (not spam)
Weekly Search Console monitoring
Set a recurring 5-minute weekly slot. Open Google Search Console → Performance. Check:
- Impressions: how often your page appears in Google search results
- CTR: how often people click. If you have impressions but low CTR, rewrite your title + description
- Average position: are you moving up?
- Queries: what people actually search to find you. Surprises here = new keywords to optimize for
Frequently asked questions
How long until my bio link ranks on Google after going through this checklist?
Typically indexed within 2–7 days after step 8. Ranking for exact-name searches within 2–4 weeks. Top 3 for branded queries within 2–4 months. Top 10 for non-brand keywords requires 6–12 months of consistent content + backlinks.
Do I need to be technical to run this checklist?
No. If you use SimpleLink, steps 1, 4, 5, 6 are automatic. The remaining 6 steps require zero coding — you fill in fields in your dashboard, then take action on Search Console + Pagespeed.
What's the single most impactful step?
Step 1 (server-side rendering). Without it, none of the others matter — your content is invisible to Google's crawler. This is why we built SimpleLink: every other link-in-bio tool fails step 1.
Should I worry about SEO if I'm just a small creator?
Yes — even more than big creators. Big names already have brand recognition driving them to position 1. You need SEO to be discovered at all. A well-optimized bio page that ranks for your niche keyword can drive 100–500 visitors per month for free, forever.
Skip steps 1, 4, 5 — pick a tool that handles them
